Post pre-monsoon showers, farmers were eagerly waiting for “Monsoon” in Maharashtra. Unfortunately this wait will be extended as monsoon will be delayed in Maharashtra. Earlier it was expected by 10th June in Kokan region, but now its slightly delayed. Now the monsoon is expected to approach by 17th June.

Due to delay in monsoon, the temperature is has crossed 40 degrees in Nagpur and Vidarbha even in second week of June. Some parts of Kokan region along with Mumbai have witnessed rainfall on Saturday and Sunday, which has raise the hope of farmers. But delay of monsoon till 17th June has become a reason of worry in farmers. Monsoon in Vidarbha is expected post 2-3 days its arrival in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Southwest Monsoon has been lashing the entire West Coast with good rains. While active Monsoon conditions are being observed over Konkan and Goa as well as the coastal parts of Karnataka, Southwest Monsoon remains normal over Kerala, and the interior parts of Karnataka.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Agumbe recorded a whopping 96.8 mm of rainfall followed by Honavar where 50.2 mm rainfall was received. Other areas to have received good rains include Panjim 46.7 mm, Karwar 46.3 mm, Gulbarga 43.6 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 32.4 mm, Alappuzha 27.6 mm, and Madikeri 17 mm rain.

Now, Southwest Monsoon is expected to cover more areas of Konkan and Goa. However, rainfall activity over interior Peninsular India is expected to remain subdued. Gradually, Southwest Monsoon will also cover Northeast India including Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal anytime soon furthermore reaching up to Kolkata in the next few days.

Vidarbha region has history of delayed monsoon from years. Usually monsoons due date for Vidarbha is 10th June but from last 11 years its been delaying every year. In 11 years monsoon has reached before 15th June for three years. Apart from it monsoon has reached after 15th June. But from 2005 to 2007 monsoon has reached on 24th June. In 2009 monsoon has reached to Vidarbha on 26th June. There are many factors for delay of monsoon.

Lets hope that there will be adequate raining in Monsoon which can bring smile on farmers faces.
